Veridt Readers added to INITIAL CAPABILITY EVALUATION LIST
Veridt Intelligent Credential Readers Approved by Transportation Security Administration
Middleton, Wisconsin (January 21, 2010)—Veridt, the innovator in credential reader designs announced today the addition of two credential readers to The Initial Capability Evaluation (ICE) List.
The Initial Capability Evaluation (ICE) List includes information on all readers that demonstrated to the Transportation Security Administration and the U.S. Coast Guard successful completion of the evaluation. Issued in 2004, Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) requires that all federal employees and contractors be issued a PIV card, a smart card with contact and contactless interfaces to be used as their identity credential for both logical access to information systems and physical access to facilities. Special Publication 800-116, as published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in November 2008, covers recommendations for the use of PIV credentials in Physical Access Control Systems (PACS).
