Multiple Reader Configurations—you decide the configuration that best fits
you operating scenario. Validates TWIC
cards at the 4 authentication modes defined
in the TWIC reader specification.
Authentication Processing:
Mode 1: CHUID Verification
Mode 2: Active Card Authentication
Mode 3: CHUID Verification + Biometric
User Authentication
Mode 4: CHUID Signing Certificate +
Active Card Authentication + Biometric User Authentication
Special Features for TWIC include dynamic recognition of TWIC as well as legacy smartcards (ISO 14443 compliant) for dual card operation using port issued ID cards. Reader polls status of networked communications and switches to “Off-line” operation when network service is interrupted. TP’s from the TWIC card are read from the magnetic stripe and stored at the reader for subsequent use. Reader polls for MARSEC level to determine correct authentication mode for current security threat level.
Dual card readers configured with a contact and contactless card read interface also meet all TWIC operational requirements.
TSA TWIC ICE Approved Veridt Readers
The Initial Capability Evaluation (ICE) list includes information on all readers that demonstrated to the Transportation Security Administration and the U.S. Coast Guard successful completion of the evaluation.
Broad Agency Announcements (BAA) are also available that contain details of the ICE and other information about the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) reader testing program. The ICE list’s purpose is to identify readers that have demonstrated their ability to complete the ICE satisfactorily.
Two ICE lists are maintained. The first list details portable and fixed readers which directly support the TWIC Privacy Key (TPK) enciphered on-card reference biometrics during registration and in operation. The second list details portable and fixed readers that implement an alternate operational biometric solution.
The TPK enciphered on-card reference biometrics is used only during registration into a Physical Access Control System (PACS) prior to having the cardholder biometrically enroll. (Such a verification and validation process of the card and cardholder prior to local enrollment into an operational biometric solution is required to preserve the Chain of Trust).
